My Dear Valentine

Here's a couple cute little Valentine cards from the same stamp set that I used last week (Sassafras Lass.)  I kept it simple with minimal layers, but made sure I used my embellishments, per my New Year's resolution to make simple cards with more embellishments.  No more hoarding embellishments!  LOL! 

I got my Sale-a-bration order from Stampin' UP yesterday, woo hoo!  I finally got those itty bitty metal library clips I've had my eye on since they debuted in a mini catalog.  They are SO cute and I'm so glad I broke down and got them.  You'll be seeing them soon in a future blog post.  I also got the crocheted Fleurettes, which are very nicely done, flat and evenly stitched.  Yes, technically, I could crochet my own, and I did make a few, but working with such a small hook and fine thread is a big ol' pain in the tush!  I'd much rather use my time and energy for stamping.

What embellishment have you had your eye on in the SU catalog but haven't bought yet?  The corduroy brads and filigree brads are still on my wish list.

Red Rose Valentine

My goal for this card was clean and simple, with a variety of embellishments.  I think it could use more variety, but the clean look is there, don't you think?  It's hard for me to leave a card alone and declare it done; I'm always thinking of things I could add or do differently.  Like now I'm thinking this card could use some sparkle!  :D

I love this layout because it lets me showcase my pretty border punches and ribbon, and only needs one focal image.  You can still see the background paper, too, which is a bonus (not an "added bonus", as that would be redundant.  Just a little grammatical thing I hear all the time that bugs me.) 

The rose stamp is from a clear stamp set by Sassafras Lass that I got from Emma's Paperie, and I'm surprised I haven't seen it used a lot because it's so cute!  Of course, I had to have it because of the rose and the other flowers.  Next week, I'll show you a very deer (hint, hint) card made with the set.  And in case you're interested, I was impressed with the quality of these stamps, which are made from photopolymer, the kind that's a little stinky when you first open the stamps.  The smell just lets you know that it's the best quality of photopolymer.  Truly.  Julie Ebersole said so, and she's the queen.  ;)

Just out of sheer curiousity, does anyone know why deer are popular right now in stamping and scrapbooking?  They're adorable, but it seems a little random to me.  (Although I infinitely prefer them over the owls.  Infinitely.)
